Rosa the Sandpiper

Rosa Blau is a nine year old Sandpiper who lives with her father George, mother Sybil, brother Timmy, eldest sister Julia and a baby sister Brenda in a large nest near a crab sanctuary on the beaches of North Topsail Island, off the coast of North Carolina.

Rosa believes that the world should revolve around her and employs a logic that most find bizarre.

The results are that the stories about her and her family are amusing and will put a smile on your face.

Unbreaded sandwich

It had been a long day at work for George. Being that it was summer, he had had hundreds of customers contacting both he and Moshe placing orders for plastic shovels and plastic buckets, while others were calling wondering where their orders were, which they had only placed the day before. Uncharacteristically, he was the last one to return to the nest. In fact, the rest of the family were already sitting at the dinner table waiting for him to show up. He had called Sybil a few minutes earlier to let her know he was on the way home.

Even on the worst days of the week, Rosa made it downstairs in time to have breakfast, especially when Julia was making it. But that day was different. The Blau family was close to finishing their meal, which was made especially for Rosa, oatmeal with frozen blue berries, when George looked at his watch and then said, “where’s Rosa?”

“What are you doing out here young lady?” George had just returned from Surf City where he had done some shopping at Chaim’s Deli. He walked out onto the deck where Rosa was sitting by herself in a chair with her legs on the railing of the deck, her head turned towards the late afternoon sky. “Hi dad!” she replied without turning her head, and then added nonchalantly, “did you get any bagels?” “Yes, I did.” “And cream cheese?” she asked.
